Jamshedpur: Dream run for qualifier Arpit Sharma ends in the hands of 3rd seeded Abhinansu Borthakur of Bengal, at the semi final of the Men’s Open Singles at the ongoing Beldih Club AITA Men’s National Ranking 50K Tennis Championship 2017, been held at Beldih Club and United Club in Northern Town, Bistupur.

Both Borthakur and Sharma refused to donate their service games as the opening set stretched to a tie-breaker, where the stronger and powerful Borthakur, currently ranked at no. 1 in Bengal State Ranking charts, prevailed by 7-4.

In the second, it was more of a one-sided affair where Borthakur proved to be too good for Rajasthan’s Sharma as the former won by an easy 6-2.

In the second semi final, unseeded Neeraj Choudhary of West Bengal failed to impress the audience today as Delhi’s Shubham Malhotra, seeded 5 in the draw, displayed effective and consistent ground strokes, thereby forcing Choudhary to make the crucial errors. Malhotra enters the final with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Choudhary.

West Bengal’s Abhinansu Borthakur will take on Shubham Malhotra of Delhi in the final of the men’s open single on Friday, November 17.

Due to poor weather, the semi finals of Men’s Doubles could not be held on Thursday and will be played on Friday where Shubham Malhotra & Hemant Kumar (DL)(1) will take on Taha Kapadia (TS) & Arpit Sharma (RJ). Rohit Rampuria & Arghya Das (WB)(4) will face Abhinansu Borthakur & Neeraj Choudhary (WB)(2).
