Jamshedpur: �Choose life not tobacco. This is my advice to today�s youth who are prone to tension and anxiety and seek recourse to tobacco products or other forms of addiction which naturally are not panaceas. Only medicines can cure mental ailments that include stress and strain and not tobacco, tobacco products or drugs. By resorting to tobacco and drugs, these youth are only nipping their future in the bud,� stated TCC official Kundan Kumar at a five day workshop organized by NUHM at the Sadar Hospital Auditorium.
Earlier, District Advisor Dr Rajiv Lochan said that strict action would be taken against tobacco products� sellers and users within 100 yards of educational institutions or public places under the Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act � 2003 (COTPA � 2003).
STT Pankaj gave a detailed account of the causes and dangers of high blood pressure and diabetes and spelt out measures of containing and preventing these diseases.
Dr Rajiv Lochan spoke on detection, treatment and self care of leprosy. He said that quick detection and prompt medication of leprosy could prevent physical deformity. He informed that a consolidated drive for detection of tuberculosis and leprosy patients would be on in the district till March 18. This door-to-door drive would help detection of such patients who then could be sent to the nearest health centres for proper and timely treatment.
Dr Lochan further informed, �Blood pressure and diabetes checks will be conducted for people above 30 years of age belonging to Potka, Patamda and Dhalbhumgarh at the NSD Clinic.�
Among others present at the workshop were BTT Sumi Hansda, villagers and Sahiyas of urban areas.
