Jamshedpur, November 9: In alignment with the national initiative of the Vascular Society of India, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) observed “Amputation Free India” Day by organizing a walkathon and awareness activities aimed at promoting early diagnosis and proper vascular care to prevent avoidable limb amputations.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 300 individuals, including healthcare professionals, students, support staff, and members of the public. The walkathon was followed by an engaging nukkad-natak (street play) presented by doctors from Tata Main Hospital to raise awareness about the importance of vascular health and timely medical consultation. The skit highlighted real-life scenarios showing how neglecting early symptoms of vascular diseases can lead to serious complications, including amputations.

The event was attended by senior leadership and medical experts from Tata Steel including Dr. Vinita Singh, General Manager Medical Services, Dr. Ashok Sunder, Chief Medical Indoor Services, Dr. Mamta Rath Dutta, Chief Medical Support Servies, Dr, Prashant Raman, Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon & Consultant Medical Indoor Services and Shailesh Kumar Singh, Deputy President, Tata Workers’ Union who addressed the gathering. They emphasized the need for public education, lifestyle modifications, and prompt medical attention to reduce the burden of limb loss in India.
Participants also took a collective pledge for an “Amputation Free India,” reaffirming their commitment to spreading awareness about vascular health and preventive care. The program received an overwhelming response from the community, reflecting increased public engagement and awareness around the cause.
Through this initiative, Tata Main Hospital and the Vascular Society of India reinforced their shared mission of ensuring accessible and preventive vascular healthcare, taking a meaningful step towards achieving an Amputation Free India.
