TMH Jamshedpur completes 2 lakh Covid tests, mild decline in positivity rate

Jamshedpur,May 7: Tata Main Hospital (TMH), the first private laboratory in Jharkhand to receive the approval for conducting COVID-19 testing, has achieved a new milestone of conducting 2 lakh Covid-19 tests. The tests that were started in May last year have completed 2 lakh mark this month.

TMH over the months has conducted total 2 lakh tests comprising Real-time Reverse Transcription–Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), TrueNAT and Rapid Antigen tests for COVID-19.

Addressing the media during a telephonic press meet, Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, COVID-19, Tata Main Hospital said that the hospital has achieved a milestone. The hospital has a benchmark in the State in terms of conducting tests by a private hospital.

He went on to inform that in the past three days there has been a slight decline in positivity rate from 48.93 per cent to 35.95 per cent. In the last three days, 181 fresh admissions were made. The hospital at present is receiving 60 admissions per day. The recovery rate of the hospital is 78.14 per cent.  On the other hand the death rate of the hospital is also high and 66 deaths were reported in past three days, 50 from East Singhbhum, 11 from Seraikela, two from Dhanbad and two Ramgarh.

“ We must take precautionary steps to ensure further safety. Avoid crowds, wear masks and maintain distance,”  said Dr Choudhry. He reiterated it’s time people started wearing masks inside their homes as well to keep the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) at bay.

Meanwhile,  the Covid-19 situation in the city is worsening every passing day with 74 deaths being reported at TMH in just four days. Out of these 46 people who died were above 60 years of age. A total of 63 those who died were from East Singhbhum, 8 from Seraikela Kharswan, two from West Singhbhum and one from Ramgarh.

 Dr Choudhry said that the hospital is well equipped with facilities but the rate of admission is very high.

Talking about ways to stop the spread of the virus, the advisor said that it’s time to start wearing masks inside homes to prevent Covid-19. He said that even the Union Government has said that when sharing common spaces inside a household, people should wear masks and wash their hands properly, in view of the more infectious second wave of the coronavirus
