Biannual conference of Jamshedpur Obstetric & gynecological Society
Jamshedpur: Dr. Vinita Singh, GM, Tata Main Hospital (TMH), emphasized the importance of maintaining active pelvic floor muscles to prevent related health issues. Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a conference organized by the Jamshedpur Obstetric and Gynecological Society (JOGS) on Sunday, she noted that pelvic floor disorders are more common in women than men. “These muscles are vital for many internal bodily functions, and their dysfunction can lead to significant health challenges,” she said.
Earlier, the first session of the conference began at TMH that included four live surgical demonstrations for participating doctors. These surgeries aimed to enhance patients’ ability to control urinary functions and repair prolapsed uteruses, offering practical insights into urogynecological treatments.

The second session, held at a hotel in Bistupur, featured Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal as the chief guest and Sister Jessy, Administrator of Mercy Hospital, as the special guest. Experts delivered detailed lectures on addressing pelvic floor issues through medication and surgical interventions. Discussions also highlighted the growing role of urogynecology in improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Kumar Saurabh, a Consultant in Medical Oncology, discussed the increasing prevalence of cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers in India. He highlighted the role of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in causing cervical cancer and emphasized the importance of the HPV vaccine. Dr. Saurabh recommended that girls receive two doses of the vaccine before the age of 15, while those over 15 should receive three doses.
Dr. Harprit Singh, Head of Urology at Mercy Hospital, spoke about the importance of maintaining healthy bladder function. He explained the use of a uroflow meter to measure urine flow rate and pattern and advised people to drink between 1.5 to 2 liters of water daily, depending on their activity level, to ensure proper bladder function.
Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Das, Director and Chief Consultant at Namah Hospital, Bhubaneswar, delivered a presentation on perineal injury prevention and treatment during childbirth. She shared educational videos to raise awareness about this crucial aspect of delivery care.
Dr. Sanjay Jouhari, a specialist in Uro and Stone Surgery, addressed urinary incontinence and its impact on individuals’ social lives. He emphasized lifestyle modifications and medications as key solutions to alleviate discomfort for both men and women.
Dr Aloke Debdas shared his expertise on the effects of normal delivery and cesarean sections on the urethra and perineum, stressing the importance of perineal care and pelvic floor exercises for women.
A panel discussion on urinary infections during pregnancy, moderated by Dr. Raghuveer Bhardwaj, featured experts Dr. Anisha Choudhary, Dr. Shipra Sarkar, Dr. Vina Kumari, Dr. Ruchita Sinha, Dr. Manju Bara, and Dr. Anju Prasad.
The conference concluded with a cultural program, where Dr. Dorothy, Dr. Manjula Shrivastava, Dr. Binod Agarwal, and Dr. Banita Sahay performed beautiful songs. Dr. Alok Devdas and Dr. Asha Gupta recited poetry, while Dr. Shipra Sarkar and other doctors from TMH presented a graceful dance performance.
The conference was organized by the Jamshedpur Obstetrics and Gynecology Society (JOGS), with Dr. Asha Gupta serving as the Media and Cultural Incharge.

The event underscored the critical need for awareness and advancements in pelvic health to address common yet often overlooked conditions affecting women’s well-being.
