Jamshedpur, March 11: Tata Main Hospital (TMH) became the first hospital in Jharkhand to implant an MRI-safe ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) device on March 10, Friday.
The implantation was carried out by Dr Mandar Mahavir Shah, interventional cardiologist at TMH.
A male patient, who was suffering from rapid heartbeats, known as Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia, a condition which can be fatal if untreated, was managed by implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Device, Medtronic EVERA.
This special pacemaker can deliver electric shock internally to treat the fast heart rate. Even though ICDs have been implanted in TMH since 2007, this implantation is special because it is MRI-safe and the patient can undergo full body MRI scan if required at any time in the future.
This is another mile stone for the Department of Cardiology at the Tata Main Hospital.
