Tinplate Workers Union: Parvinder Sohal sets record with 10th consecutive election victory

Jamshedpur, January 13: Parvinder Singh Sohal, a prominent officer of the Golmuri Tinplate Workers Union, has set a remarkable record by being elected unopposed for the 10th consecutive term. This milestone, achieved through ballot, underscores his unparalleled popularity and influence in the trade union.

Sohal represents the largest constituency in the union, comprising the CRM Electrical and Crane Maintenance Department, yet he has consistently won unopposed. This year, he secured a record number of votes, adding to his longstanding legacy. His journey began in 1994 when he was elected shortly after becoming a permanent employee under the leadership of labour leader and MP Siddheshwar Chaudhary and Gopeshwar Lal.

Over his 31-year tenure, Sohal has held several key positions, including Union Executive Member, Assistant Secretary (twice), Joint General Secretary, and Vice President (three terms). His leadership and commitment have made him a respected figure in both the union and the wider community.

In addition to his trade union achievements, Sohal has been active in social service. He has served as General Secretary of the District Congress Committee, Chairman and Advisor of the Gurudwara Managing Committee, and has made significant contributions to social work.

Expressing his gratitude, Sohal thanked the employees for their unwavering support. “The union faces significant challenges ahead, such as the new grade revision and the recruitment of permanent employees,” he said. “I will continue to work selflessly to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me by my colleagues.”
