Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely in Jamshedpur and parts of Jharkhand

Jamshedpur: Several isolated areas in north-western Jharkhand are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with speeds ranging between 30-40 kmph, according to a weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi Meteorological Centre today.

In addition to today’s forecast, the IMD has also warned of possible hailstorms along with thunderstorms and strong winds (40-50 kmph) in isolated areas of southern and central Jharkhand on Thursday, March 20. The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious, especially in vulnerable regions where storm activity could lead to disruptions.

Over the past two days, the thunderstorm activity has contributed to a pause in the rising temperatures, providing some relief from the increasing heat. The maximum temperature in Ranchi and its adjoining areas has stabilized around 32 degrees Celsius, while Jamshedpur continues to record higher temperatures at around 37 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Daltonganj and its nearby regions have witnessed temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Chaibasa in the adjoining West Singhbhum district emerged as the hottest place in the state, with a recorded temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours.

Meteorologists have also predicted a partly cloudy sky at isolated places across the state today, which could influence weather conditions in the affected regions. The changing weather patterns indicate an increasing possibility of thunderstorms over the coming days, which might bring temporary relief from the prevailing heat.

Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning strikes. Farmers, particularly in regions expecting hailstorms, have been advised to safeguard their crops against potential damage.
