Three-Storey Multi-Level Parking Planned at Tatanagar Station

Modern Facility to Meet Passenger Needs for Next 50 Years

Jamshedpur, July 8: Passengers travelling through Tatanagar Railway Station are set to get a major parking upgrade as the Railways plans to construct a three-storey multi-level parking facility under the station redevelopment project.

The proposed parking complex is being designed to meet the growing needs of passengers over the next 50 years. It will allow commuters to park their vehicles within the station premises and provide direct access to the station from every floor, eliminating the need to return to the ground level after parking.

According to officials of the Chakradharpur Railway Division, a detailed proposal for the project has been prepared and will soon be sent to the Railway headquarters for approval.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of Chakradharpur Division, Aditya Chaudhary said the multi-level parking facility is part of the overall redevelopment plan for Tatanagar station. The project aims to improve passenger convenience by providing modern infrastructure similar to that available at major airports.

Tatanagar, one of the busiest stations on the Howrah-Mumbai main line, currently handles around 70 trains every day and serves nearly 35,000 to 40,000 passengers daily. Railway officials expect passenger traffic to increase significantly after the station redevelopment is completed.

The expansion project is likely to introduce six to seven additional trains connecting Jharkhand with other states, including Odisha and West Bengal. The increase in train services is expected to bring more passengers, making enhanced parking facilities essential.

Railway sources said a survey for a multi-level parking facility had been conducted several years ago, but the proposal did not move forward. With the redevelopment project now underway, the plan has gained fresh momentum.

At present, a large parking area with space for around 10,000 vehicles is available near the Bagbera Gate of the station. In addition, the new station building being developed at the Burmamines Gate will also include dedicated parking facilities.

The Rs 328-crore redevelopment project aims to transform Tatanagar, a model station under South Eastern Railway, into a modern transport hub with improved passenger amenities, enhanced safety and airport-like facilities. The proposed multi-level parking is expected to become one of the key features of the upgraded station.
