Jamshedpur: Sonari police have arrested three men involved in a large-scale illegal liquor bottling racket and seized a significant quantity of liquor bottles, fake labels and bottling materials. The arrests were made on Monday near Khutadih Mosque following a tip-off.
According to police, Sub-Inspector Dhananjay Kumar Singh was on routine day patrol with his team when they spotted a suspicious Maruti car (registration number JH05AV8433) in the area. The vehicle was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of 246 bottles of “3 Coins” whisky (750 ml), 48 bottles of “Robin Blue” whisky (750 ml), 56 Royal Stag liquor stickers, 53 empty bottles, 5,224 bottle caps, three mobile phones and the car itself.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sajjan Kumar Gupta (35) and Amit Kumar Gupta (32), both residents of Khuntadih, Sonari and Amit Kumar Sahu (30) of Jugsalai. During interrogation, they confessed to their modus operandi — refilling branded liquor bottles with cheaper alcohol, sealing them with fake caps, attaching counterfeit labels and selling them in the market as premium liquor.
Police have booked the trio under Sections 274, 318(4), 336(2), 338, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 47(A) of the Excise Act. All three have been remanded to judicial custody.
The operation was carried out by SI Dhananjay Kumar Singh, ASI Manoj Kumar and constable Bablu Munda of Sonari police station.
