Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur (West) MLA Saryu Roy on Tuesday met East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner to discuss pressing civic and law and order issues in Mango Municipal Corporation and the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC). The meeting was attended by the Deputy Municipal Commissioners of both bodies and the Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department.

Expressing concern over the worsening conditions, Roy said, “Administrative laxity is the sole reason for these deepening problems.” The DC directed the civic bodies to resolve Mango’s drinking water, waste disposal and drainage problems within one month, with full cooperation from the water and sanitation department.

The DC further ordered that Mango Municipal Corporation take over the Mango Water Supply Project from the water department, settle pending dues with the operating agency, prepare cost estimates and address deficiencies in intake wells, the water treatment plant, storage tanks, pump sets and pipelines. Officials were also told to provide water to JNAC slum areas and explore linking its sewerage system to Tata Steel’s network through a joint survey.

Roy submitted lists of illegal activities in Kadma and Sonari, including gambling dens, lottery/matka points, illicit scrap yards and liquor trade, along with details of illegal sand mining from the Kharkai River despite an NGT ban. He alleged that half a dozen trucks remove sand daily from Kadma with police knowledge, demanding strict action against erring officers.

He also flagged illegal occupation of community halls in both areas by vested interests. The DC assured action, ordering a probe into alleged police collusion.

Roy’s submitted list included illegal gambling spots near mosques, bridges and parks; scrap yards in residential areas; and liquor sales in several localities under Kadma and Sonari police stations.
