Three arrested in Rs 30 lakh Jamshedpur robbery

Jamshedpur: The police have made headway in the sensational Rs 30 lakh robbery in Bistupur with the arrest of three accused, including the key planner of the crime. The breakthrough comes just four days after businessman Saket Agiwal was waylaid and robbed near Bistupur Gurudwara.

According to police, the mastermind — a youth from Sakchi — had conducted a recce of Agiwal’s movements for four to five days before executing the plan. On September 4, the gang, travelling in a white Innova and a scooter, intercepted Agiwal, threw chilli powder into his eyes, and decamped with the cash.

Acting on leads, police first arrested a youth from Rajnagar in Seraikela on Sunday. His interrogation led to the seizure of the Innova used in the crime. He also confessed to arranging shelter and logistics for the gang. Two more accused were subsequently picked up. So far, police have also recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges used during the heist.

Two women have been detained for questioning on suspicion of providing information or support to the robbers. Their role is being probed.

The daylight robbery had sparked outrage and fear among residents and the victim’s family. Senior police officials said the arrests send out a strong message against rising street crimes. They urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to help dismantle criminal networks.

Police confirmed that raids are continuing to nab the prime conspirator and expose the full extent of the gang’s operations. “The case is a top priority for us, and no one involved will be spared,” officials said.
