Jamshedpur, Aug 14: Amid sluggish market demand, auto major Tata Motors has announced two-day block closure on August 16 and 17 at its Jamshedpur plant, a company official said.
The impact
of slowdown in the auto industry on Tata Motors is visible as its Jamshedpur
unit is going for third closure from August 16.
“The Tata Motors will remain closed for four days from August 15.
Officially it will be two days block closure but technically it will be closed
for four days,” sources in Tata Motors had told earlier.
August 15
being Independence Day, August 16 and 17 the official block closure and August
18 being a Sunday. The company will reopen on Monday, August 19.
There has been a sharp slowdown in the automobile industry. The plant, with
over 10000 permanent and non-permanent workforces, which produces trucks,
trailers, trippers and other multi axel vehicles, would remain closed till
August 4. The company that used to manufacturer around 12000 vehicles per month
is now forced to manufacture around 3500 vehicles. Due to downfall in the
demand, the company has curtailed its production.
An official of Tata Motors said, Under the prevailing market scenario the company has to take appropriate action time to time to match the production with demand and avoid unnecessary buildup of inventories in the company or with the dealers.
Earlier, the company announced a block closure for three days from 8 August and four-day block starting August 1 at its Jamshedpur plant.
