Jamshedpur: Thieves struck 5 to 6 houses in Jawaharnagar Road No. 14 under Mango Police Station late last night, stealing valuables worth lakhs from four residences. The residents discovered the thefts early on Friday morning when they found household items scattered and jewelry missing from their lockers. All the affected households were neighbours.

Among the victims, Soni Parveen reported that the thieves broke into her house by smashing the rod of the kitchen window. “They stole Rs. 20,000 in cash and jewelry worth Rs. 70,000 from my locker while my children were asleep in the house,” she said. Additionally, Zahir’s house was looted of two mobile phones valued at Rs. 60,000, while Ghulam Qadir lost Rs. 5,000 in cash. A similar theft took place at Majhar’s house.

In total, the thieves made off with a significant amount of money and valuables, causing distress among the residents. “It’s horrifying to think that the thieves managed to break into our homes so easily,” added Parveen.

The situation took a turn when locals caught one of the thieves, identified as Shahrukh, red-handed. Shahrukh, a resident of Road No. 14, was apprehended by the public, while his two accomplices, Billa and Diljale, managed to escape. The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which is now being used by the police in their investigation.

“The police have begun their investigation based on the CCTV footage, and we are taking all necessary steps to apprehend the remaining suspects,” said a police official.

The thefts have left the residents of Jawaharnagar Road shaken, but with the arrest of one thief, the police are hopeful of making further breakthroughs in the case.
