Patna: Cash, gold jewellery, and electronic goods were stolen from the official Harding Road residence of former Bihar minister and RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav. According to a complaint lodged with the Secretariat police station, a massive haul of cash, gold jewellery, and high-end electronic gadgets has gone missing from the high-profile premises.
Tej Pratap Yadav has accused his former associate, Motilal Rai, of orchestrating the theft.
Cash and High-End Gadgets Cleaned Out
The theft reportedly came to light on June 22, when ₹20 lakh in cash—which was kept in a cupboard for party-related expenses—was found missing. A subsequent sweep of the house revealed that the intruder had cleaned out an array of valuables and sensitive electronic devices.
Inventory of Stolen Items:
- Cash: Approximately ₹20,000,000 (₹20 Lakh)
- Jewelry: One gold chain (approx. two tolas) and a gold ring
- Apple Ecosystem Devices: A MacBook laptop, an iPad, and four iPhone Pro Max smartphones
- Storage Devices: Two hard disks and four pen drives
- Other Electronics: A Lenovo laptop
The cumulative financial and data value of the stolen items runs into several lakhs of rupees, sending shockwaves through Patna’s political and administrative circles.
Police Launch High-Level Probe
Following the complaint, senior officials from the Secretariat police station visited the Harding Road residence to inspect the crime scene and gather forensic evidence.
DSP Statement: “A complaint regarding the theft has been received. The police are investigating the matter seriously. Further action will be taken after considering all the facts. The situation will become clear only after the investigation is complete,” said Secretariat Range DSP Dr. Anu.
A Repeat Security Breach
This is not the first time Tej Pratap Yadav’s official residence has fallen victim to an inside job. In 2022, a similar theft of cash and valuables occurred at the same house. At that time, Yadav had filed a complaint against an individual named Chandan, who was responsible for the upkeep of the property.
The recurring nature of these incidents has raised serious questions regarding the security protocols at official VVIP residences in Patna and the vetting process for the staff and associates granted access to them.
