Seminar cum felicitation programme for women held in Tetla

Potka: A seminar cum felicitation programme was organized in Tetla panchayat of Potka on Friday to celebrate International Women�s Day. It was held on the topic �My existence, my right�. The chief guest of the occasion was the MLA of Potka, Menka Sardar while the chief speaker was the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Amit Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA said organizing programmes to felicitate women on the occasion of Women�s Day was important from the point of view of empowering women. She said a host of welfare and development works were on in Tetla panchayat. She appealed to the villagers including women to extend their full cooperation to the district administration in ensuring faster progress of the block.

Agreeing with the legislator, the DC, who has adopted Tetla panchayat, praised the panchayat officials for organizing the function. He said the women of Potka were aware of their rights and duties. He said the state government was running a number of welfare programmes including Johar scheme for women. Under the Johar scheme, women are being encouraged to become independent. He wished Tetla became a model village for all other villages of East Singhbhum to follow.

The DC said there was need for the villagers to be aware of the need for cleanliness He asked the villagers to use the toilets constructed by the state government. He also asked them to avail the benefits of MGNREGS.

Altogether 14 women from different fields were felicitated during the programme. They included Sohagi Hembrom, Memosri Sardar, Maidi Murmu, Savitri Singh, Tulsi Murmu, Shefali Singh, Tulsabi Nayak, Kalpana Nayak, Raimani Singh, Meena Singh, Kiran Patra, Seema Bose and Somvari Sardar.

The programme was conducted by the local Mukhiya Dipantari Sardar. A welcome speech was proposed by Anita Singh.
