Seraikela: Tension flared up between two communities in the Nimdih police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Saturday. Heavy police presence has been deployed in Jhimri village, where the situation remains volatile.

According to reports, a Hindu girl from Jhimri allegedly eloped with a Muslim youth, sparking outrage among local residents. In retaliation, an angry mob set fire to three shops in the Jhimri market area, injuring the shopkeepers. As tempers flared and both communities came face-to-face, the situation further deteriorated.

In a dramatic escalation, protesters attacked the local Nimdih police force. In response, the police were forced to open fire to disperse the crowd and ensure security. Senior officials, including the District SP and Chandil DSP, immediately rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

To prevent further violence and restore peace, a large contingent of police force has been deployed. Administrative officers, including the Nimdih Circle Officer (CO) and Village Development Officer (VDO), were also present in the village, working to defuse tensions and maintain law and order.

The administration continued to monitor the situation closely, making efforts to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy. (w/gsd)
