Jamshedpur : Sudden nip in the air and change in temperature have led to the rise in cases of viral fever with several various health centers receiving large number of patients with ailments like sore throat, cold, cough, fever and pulmonary distress.
According to sources, the number of patients with viral fever and cold has increased immensely at MGM Medical College and Hospital and Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in the past few days due to the temperature decreasing.
A doctor of TMH said that out of an average footfall of 1000 at medicine OPDs around 40 per cent account for persons suffering from viral induced cold, cough and fever.
Long queues of patients can also be seen at MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi and Sadar Hospital at Khasmahal on Wednesday morning.
An OPD survey at state-owned MGM Medical College and Hospital and the biggest private hospital of the region (940-bed) Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has indicated that number of patients with viral fever and cold has increased rapidly in the past few days due to the temperature difference.
The average maximum temperature in city for the last few days is hovering between 33 and 35 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature is varying between 17 and 19 degree Celsius.
East Singhbhum integrated diseases surveillance program (IDSP) official Sahir Pall said the rise in viral cases is due to climatic change.
A senior doctor of MGM Medical College and Hospital said the decreasing temperatures also pose a threat to asthma patients who prefer to go out in the wee hours for jogging or a walk.
He advised that it is better for asthma patients to avoid going out during early hours for walks. Diabetics, heart and asthma patients, children and pregnant women have less immunity. They should be very cautious during this season.
The medical practitioner further added that normally running nose, cold, cough, body ache and loss of appetite goes away with proper medications in three-four days.
“However, weakness might persist and one has to take rest and maintain personal hygiene and drink lots of water,” he Dr Kumar.
