Jamshedpur, Nov. 1: Jharkhand leg-spinner Samar Quadri’s brilliant six wickets for 97 runs and captain Shahbaz Nadeem’s 3 wickets for 66 runs restricted Goa to 302 in their first innings on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match at Keenan Stadium on Sunday.
Goa made their way back into the match with four wickets, leaving Jharkhand at 159 for 4 going into the fourth day tomorrow. Jharkhand now trail by 143 runs.
During the start of day 3, Goa lost overnight batsman Swapnil Asnodkar and Snehal Kauthankar early before being revived by a 58-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Rituraj Singh and Darshan Misal. Both the spinners ran through the rest of the line-up to bring an end to the Goa innings.
In reply, Jharkhand’s Sumit Kumar and Shiv Gautam shared a 64-run partnership for the second wicket after opener Prakash Munda was dismissed for only 2.
Shadab Jakati, however, struck with three quick wickets to push Jharkhand from 60 for 1 to 106 for 4. Gautam and Kumar Deobrat then steadied the innings, playing out the day with a 53-run partnership.
On fourth and the final day on Monday, Jharkhand would be looking the go past the Goa total in order to attain points while Shadab Jakati holds the key for Goa after both Jharkhand spinners bowled brilliantly.
