Teenager drowns in Kharkai river

Jamshedpur, July 31 : The spate in river took life of a teenager as he was drowned in Kharkai river along Kadma police station area on Monday morning.

The teenager identified as Mohammed Saheed (19), who was a resident of Shastrinagar Block No 2 in Kadma, was drowned while he had gone to the river for taking a bath.The body of the drowning victim was recovered from the river within two hours of the incident.

According to family members, Saheed had left the house at about 6 am for taking bath at the river ghat, where he used to go regularly .

” We are in state of shock never fate will be so cruel. Saheed used to return home within an hour after taking bath in the river, but as he did not return home till 7.30 am, we were worried.

A person came running home and informed that Saheed was drowned in the river,” said Saheed’s father Mohammed Gulshan while talking to newsmen.The deceased would work in a cloth shop at Bistupur.

Some of the residents had even tried to save the youth by swimming to the point where he was seen drowning, but they failed to trace him.
Though two local divers were pressed in but the body was found stuck in a bush along the river bank by 8.30 pm. The divers just recovered the body in presence of the police who shifted it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.

OC, Kadma police station , RD Singh confirmed about the drowning death of the youth while taking bath in the Kharkai river. ” A 19-year-old youth was drowned while taking bath in the Kharkai river. We have recovered the body of the victim who was a resident of Shastringar Block No 2 in Kadma,” said Singh

Earlier on July 27, a 11-year-old boy was drowned while taking bath in the swollen Kharkai river along Shastrinagar under Kadma police station area.
