Teenage girl raped by cousin in Jamshedpur, accused arrested

Jamshedpur, August 3: In a case from Jamshedpur’s Kadma police station area, a 16-year-old girl has accused her cousin of repeatedly raping her over the past two years. The accused, identified as Prashanjit Sen, was arrested on Saturday and remanded to custody.

According to the victim’s statement, recorded before First Class Judicial Magistrate Arpana Kumari under POCSO Act provisions, the ordeal began in August 2021 when she was 14 years old. The accused, who allegedly has connections with anti-social elements and politicians, threatened her with a gun and sexually assaulted her when they were alone at home.

The victim, who lives in the same house as the accused, stated that the abuse continued for nearly two years. She remained silent out of fear until August 1, 2024, when she finally gathered the courage to resist and inform her family after another attempted assault.

Upon learning of the incidents, the family reported the matter to the police. An FIR was promptly registered based on the victim’s statement, leading to the arrest of Prashanjit Sen.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited as the case proceeds through the legal system.
