Speed breaker removed in Jamshedpur: New installation sparks traffic chaos

Jamshedpur, August 3: The contentious speed breaker in front of Tata Steel’s power house gate in Jugsalai was removed on Saturday afternoon following significant public outcry. However, the removal of the problematic speed breaker has been met with a new issue: a higher speed breaker has been installed in its place. The abrupt removal led to severe traffic congestion, causing hours-long jams and making many commuters miss their trains.

Despite the high traffic volume, Tata Steel UISL proceeded with the removal during peak hours, exacerbating the chaos. The absence of traffic police, who are usually stationed at the nearby Jugsalai police station, contributed to the disorder. The police, known for checking helmets and stopping commercial vehicles, were notably absent during the incident. Although officers were eventually stationed near the Jugsalai flyover to manage the situation, there was no effort to halt the daytime construction work.

The decision to carry out the removal during the day, rather than at night, resulted in increased inconvenience for the public. The speed breaker issue, initially caused by poorly placed and excessive speed breakers, was meant to be resolved, but the new installation has not alleviated the problems. The situation remains problematic for commuters, as they continue to face difficulties due to the newly erected high speed breaker.

  1. There’s no discipline on Jamshedpur city roads. You can drive anyways, wrong lanes, opposite direction, taking short cuts before traffic islands or round about. No one is bothered, not even the traffic police. The steel company has provided such beautiful roads with dividers but traffic cops remains mute spectators to rampant traffic rule violations.
