Jamshedpur, October 5: Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Albino Gomes credited the team’s spirit and collective effort as the driving force behind their crucial 2-0 victory over East Bengal FC in front of a roaring home crowd. The win, which secured three points for the Men of Steel, was a much-needed boost heading into the international break.
“I felt amazing when the last whistle was blown because we needed these three points going into the international break. It helps us stay positive and restart the league on a positive note.”
Despite East Bengal’s intense pressure throughout the match, Jamshedpur FC maintained their composure and stood firm as a unit. “Yes, we had a lot of pressure, but we worked as a team, stayed composed, and did our best to win the match,” he said.
The defining moment of the game came in the 64th minute when Gomes faced Saul Crespo’s penalty kick when the goalkeeper pulled off a crucial save to keep Jamshedpur’s lead intact. “Nothing much was going through my mind. I was just focusing on the ball, and I was confident I would save the penalty kick,” he reflected.
Gomes was quick to acknowledge the collective effort that secured the clean sheet, which had eluded Jamshedpur in previous matches. “The whole team worked together, right from the striker to me, to keep the clean sheet. Yesterday’s clean sheet was very important because in previous matches we defended so well but couldn’t keep one. This win will help boost our confidence for the upcoming matches as well,” he added.
Jamshedpur FC now heads into the international break, sitting in third place on the Indian Super League table. The Men of Steel will return to action against Hyderabad FC on October 21, hoping to carry this momentum forward.
