Jamshedpur, Oct 23: A major incident of stone pelting was reported on the Mumbai–Howrah Duronto Express near Manoharpur in West Singhbhum district late on Wednesday night.
According to preliminary information, unidentified miscreants hurled stones at the passing train, shattering several windowpanes.
One passenger sustained injuries in the attack and was provided first aid by the onboard medical staff.
The incident created panic among travelers, many of whom reported hearing sudden loud thuds as the train was moving at high speed.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officials immediately launched an investigation after the train reached its next halt.
Senior railway officials have confirmed that CCTV footage and local surveillance systems are being reviewed to identify those responsible.
Teams have also been deployed in the surrounding areas of Manoharpur to trace the culprits.
Railway authorities have condemned the act, terming it a serious threat to passenger safety.
Security has been tightened along the route, and patrols have been intensified to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. Passengers have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities during train journeys.
