Jamshedpur: With the onset of cold weather, the railways has started night patrols on the tracks to ensure that train operations are not affected by fog and to provide immediate rescue measures in case of track cracks. Under the safe rail operation plan in Tatanagar and Adityapur, a team of six railway personnel has been formed for track patrols. This will involve nightly patrols from Tatanagar to Jugsalai flyover, from Adityapur over the Kharkai River bridge to Jugsalai crossing, and from Tatanagar to Salgajhuri cabin, starting from 10 PM until morning.
During patrol duty, railway employees inspect every joint to detect any track cracks. As part of safety measures during the line patrol, trackmen from Tatanagar and Adityapur will exchange reports with each other and update their registers. The trackmen conducting night patrols will be equipped with walkie-talkies and mobile phones, enabling them to immediately inform the station master, RRI, and crossing gatekeepers if any defects are found on the tracks.
Train safety measures are being intensified to prevent derailments caused by line cracks and to ensure smooth operations during foggy conditions. Experts report “As fog thickens, senior officials from various departments, including engineering, operations, safety, carriage, and signaling, are conducting nightly foot plating on freight and passenger trains at key stations like Tatanagar and Chakradharpur. This critical process plays a vital role in maintaining the safety of train services, allowing for normal traffic flow even in challenging weather conditions.”
