Jamshedpur, Sep 26: Tatanagar Railway Station, a vital and bustling hub in Jharkhand, is poised for a significant transformation with a redevelopment plan worth Rs 348 crore. The initiative aims to modernize the station and enhance passenger experience, looking ahead to future demands up to the year 2060. The project will introduce airport-like facilities to ensure greater convenience and comfort for travelers.
The redevelopment plan includes an impressive six-storey main entrance, with the first floor dedicated to passenger amenities and the upper floors reserved for commercial activities. A secondary entry gate will feature three storeys, facilitating passenger movement on the ground floor while commercial operations will occupy the first and second floors. To address parking needs, multi-layer parking facilities will be constructed at both entrances, allowing passengers to park their vehicles safely and conveniently.
In addition to enhanced entry points, the project will incorporate subways and elevated walkways for easy access to platforms. The station will boast a total of eight platforms, designed to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic efficiently.
Currently, Tatanagar Railway Station serves approximately 44,169 passengers daily, a figure projected to rise to 93,400 by 2060. The station manages the operation of 57 mail-express trains and 35 passenger trains, with 17 pairs of each departing daily. The total area of the station spans 200 acres (809,371 square meters), of which 78.71 acres will be dedicated to this development project.
Upon completion, the station will feature state-of-the-art amenities akin to those found in modern airports. This includes upgraded waiting rooms, well-organized and clean platforms, improved ticketing systems, and digital display boards—all aimed at elevating the travel experience for passengers and enhancing the station’s prestige.
Officials from the South Eastern Railway Zone and Chakradharpur Railway Division are actively overseeing the redevelopment efforts. Funds have been allocated, and the tender process is set to commence shortly. Meetings are ongoing with General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra and engineers from the Design Accord Consultant Architect Agency to ensure timely and high-quality completion of this vital infrastructure project.
