Jamshedpur: The much-awaited redevelopment of Tatanagar railway station is set to begin in June, with the tender expected to be finalized by March. The master plan and Detailed Project Report (DPR) have been completed, outlining the construction strategy and technological framework. The project aims to transform the station into a pillar of economic development for the region, utilizing 200 acres of land.
As part of the redevelopment, several old structures will be demolished, including the current COP platform, Burmamines second entry, fencing areas, rail-level platforms, toilet blocks and an underground tank. Construction will take place on 78.72 acres, with the remaining land allocated for logistics-related services.
The Burmamines entry will be developed into a North Station Building, offering modern passenger amenities similar to those on the old gate side. A bridge air concourse will be built to connect both areas, featuring 576 seating spaces for passengers.
The old station gate will be revamped into a South Station Building, designed as a pedestrian-friendly zone with food kiosks, porter counters, taxi booths, help desks, public toilets, security measures and comfortable seating. The arrival area will have shops and food kiosks directly linked to a foot overbridge, while the departure area will accommodate railway offices, ticket booking counters, waiting areas, retail outlets and cloakrooms.
A dedicated play area for children will also be developed on the first floor, alongside additional seating arrangements. The main concourse will be built at a height of 18.5 meters, with a width of 4,776 square meters.
A model of the redeveloped Tatanagar station has already been displayed for public viewing. According to projections, 93,740 passengers will use the station daily by the financial year 2061-62.
With the redevelopment, Tatanagar railway station is set to become a modern transportation hub, enhancing passenger convenience and boosting economic growth in the region.
