Jamshedpur, April 12 : Tatanagar railway station added a unique facility for the needy
passengers. The A-1 category station got a battery operated car and five wheel-chairs for ferrying.
With this Tatanagar has become the first railway station under the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway ( SER) to have the facility of a eco-friendly battery operated car.
The four-seater( including the driver) battery operated car along with five wheel-chairs and also a stretcher was donated at a function organised on the station premises this afternoon. Brahmananda Seva Sadan, a city based private charitable trust has donated them to the station authorities today.
Station manager O. P. Sharma, area railway manager ( ARM) of Tatanagar Om PrakashCharan and managing trusteee of BrahmanandaSevaSadan, MonuBhattacharjeewere present at the function.
While handing over the key of the battery operated car to station authorities, Bhattacharjee said the vehicle and the wheel-chairs have been donated to help senior citizens, disabled and passengers who are in need. ” We have been thinking over take the step. We are confident that the station authorities will make best use of the battery operated car and the wheel-chairs,” said Bhattacharjee.
According to him, the maintenance and upkeep of the battery operated car will be done by the trust. ” It is one of our ambitious projects. We have also provided two drivers who will operate the vehicle in two shifts 6 am to 2 pm and from 2 pm to 10 pm.
Depending on the response the service of the batter operated car might be made 24/7 in the days to come. In that case we will donate another such battery operated car to the station authorities, ” he said.
Station manager of Tatanagar O.P Sharma said this was an addition to the passenger amenities through private participation. ” The initiative will help needy passengers by approaching the office of deputy station superintendent on platform number 1. The service will be free,” said Sharma confirming that no other railway stations under Chakradharpur division have the facility of a battery operated car.
With today’s donation, the number of wheel-chairs at Tatanagar railway station increased to seven. Located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route Tatanagar is an important station.
Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
