Work on the elevator project started in July 2016. Apart from platform no. 1 another elevator will shortly start functioning on platform no. 3. Both the elevators on each of the platforms are installed at the Kharagpur-end of the railway station. Balmuchu said the second elevator on platform no. 3 will begin operation in another one month or so.

Senior divisional commercial manager and spokesperson of Chakradharpur railway division Bhaskar said the elevator project is aimed at giving comfort to passengers, especially to the elderly and people with physical disabilities.
