Jamshedpur, Sept 14: The Chakradharpur Railway Division has unveiled a pioneering facility at its flagship station, Tatanagar—an advanced Digital Locker Room, designed to enhance passenger convenience, strengthen security, and save valuable time.
This marks the division’s first state-of-the-art locker facility, leveraging cutting-edge technology to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.
Revolutionizing Baggage Storage
Unlike conventional cloakroom services, the digital locker room empowers passengers with complete autonomy.
Through a self-service system equipped with QR code scanning and digital payment options, travellers can effortlessly store and retrieve their belongings.
The system allows users to select a storage duration of their choice and pay accordingly, creating a process that is not only faster but also far more transparent and secure.
Transparent Tariff Structure
The tariff system has been made crystal-clear, offering distinct rates for large and extra-large baggage.
Large Baggage:
Rs 23.6 for 1 hour | Rs 70.8 for 3 hours | Rs 141.6 for 5 hours | Rs 200.5 for 8 hours | Rs 448.4 for 12 hours
Extra-Large Baggage:
Rs 41.3 for 1 hour | Rs 123.9 for 3 hours | Rs 247.8 for 5 hours | Rs 413 for 8 hours | Rs 826 for 12 hours
For storage beyond 12 hours, nominal hourly charges apply—₹20 for large items and ₹35 for extra-large items.
Enhancing Passenger Comfort
The new system is particularly beneficial for long-distance travellers who often spend extended hours at the station.
With this facility, passengers can confidently secure heavy luggage or important documents and freely explore, rest, or dine without concern.
The service operates round-the-clock, providing uninterrupted accessibility.
Safety Through Technology
Equipped with modern digital safeguards, the locker room minimizes dependency on manual supervision and significantly reduces risks associated with theft or misplacement.
The integration of digital payments and QR-based access ensures that security and accountability remain uncompromised.
Railway Officials on the New Initiative
Railway authorities have hailed the facility as a transformative step in passenger service. A senior official remarked, “Our goal is to deliver services that are safe, swift, and reliable. With this digital locker room, we are not only improving efficiency but also instilling greater confidence among passengers. Similar facilities will soon be introduced at other major stations.”
Passenger Response
The inaugural response has been overwhelmingly positive. A passenger bound for New Delhi, shared, “It was incredibly convenient to store my heavy bag without any hassle. The process was quick, transparent, and absolutely secure.”
Similarly, Anamika Sharma, another passenger, noted, “This initiative has made traveling stress-free. Now, luggage safety is no longer a worry.”
Looking Ahead
The Railway Division plans to expand this facility across multiple key stations in the near future. With its transparent pricing, user-friendly interface, and high-security standards, the digital locker room is poised to become a benchmark in Indian Railways’ journey towards modernization and passenger-centric innovation.
