Jamshedpur: Railway department is making efforts to ensure safe railway traffic, better food facility and greater cleanliness for its passengers. Suggestions have been sought from passengers so that they may be incorporated in the larger interest of the public.
Sources said work had started to improve the present facilities for passengers and eliminate loopholes in the system wherever needed. Senior railway officials will keep a tab on the suggestions and complaints and take prompt action on them, sources said.
As per sources, improvement in different departments is likely to be seen after 20th May at Railway Board and Zone level. Railway has set up a new department of Environment and housekeeping. The central control board has been set up in New Delhi in which divisional commercial managers (DCMs) have been deputed in Tatanagar and Chakradharpur railway divisions. The officials of commerce, engineering, health and other departments will soon get new responsibilities, sources said.
Railway had sought suggestions from passengers in the year 2016. Thousands of passengers had suggested improving pantry facilities and maintenance of hygiene in bogies.
A survey team had also noted down replies of passengers on railway platforms in this connection to find out real status of hygiene at the railway station.
Tatanagar was declared as the top railway station in Eastern India and ninth across the country in terms of cleanliness. Railway officials are gearing up to ensure washing of bogies, elimination of pest from bogies, supply of clean bedrolls, cleaning of retiring room and dormitory and improvement in food provided to passengers.
Sources said the Railway department is focusing on 12 areas and is also going to install a digital display network system. Two devices are being tried for safety railway traffic.
