Tatanagar: Rail Roko Protest by Kurmis disrupt train services

20 trains cancelled

Jamshedpur: Members of the Kurmi community in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand have initiated a Rail Roko protest today demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for their community. The demonstration has caused significant disruptions in train services, leading to the cancellation and diversion of several trains.

In response to the ongoing agitation by the Kurmi Samaj, the following trains have been cancelled on September 20, 2023: 12810 Howrah-Mumbai (CSMT) Mail, 18114 Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express, 12130 Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, 12834 Howrah – Ahmedabad Express, 08108 Chakradharpur – Rourkela Special, 08164 Rourkela – Chakradharpur Special, 18616 Hatia – Howrah Kriya Yoga Express, 18620 Godda- Ranchi Express, 18615 Howrah-Hatia Kriya Yoga Express, 13404 Bhagalpur – Ranchi Express, 08642 Barkakana – Adra Special, 08696 Ranchi -Bokaro Steel City Special, 08151 Tatanagar-Barkakana Special, 08196 Hatia-Tatanagar Special, 13304 Ranchi -Dhanbad Express, 13403 Ranchi- Bhagalpur Express, 3596 Asansol -Bokaro Steel City Special, 18619 Ranchi-Godda Express, 18622 Hatia -Patna Express, 13302 Tatanagar -Dhanbad Express

Additionally, several trains have been diverted from their usual routes: 20839 Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, scheduled to commence its journey on September 20, 2023, will run on a diverted route via Ranchi-Lohardaga-Tori. 18624 Hatia -Islampur Express, scheduled for September 20, 2023, will follow a diverted route via Ranchi-Tatisilwai-Mesra-Barkakana-Hazaribagh Town-Koderma. 18609 Ranchi-LTT Express, set to begin its journey on September 20, 2023, will run on a diverted route via Ranchi-Lohardaga-Tori.

18623 Islampur-Hatia Express, slated for a journey commencing on September 20, 2023, will operate on a diverted route via Koderma-Hazaribagh Town-Barkakana-Mesra-Tatisilwai.

The Rail Roko protest has inconvenienced thousands of passengers and disrupted rail services in the region. The Kurmi community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status reflects a long-standing concern, and they have resorted to this protest to draw attention to their cause.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and efforts are being made to engage in dialogue with the protesters to resolve the issue peacefully. Meanwhile, passengers are advised to check the status of their trains and make necessary travel arrangements in light of the ongoing disruptions caused by the protest.
