Front must be opened against ARM: Shivshankar Singh
Mail News Service
Jamshedpur : Shivshankar Singh, Convener of the Rail Passenger Struggle Committee, has issued a strong warning of escalating protests against railway authorities, particularly targeting the Assistant Railway Manager (ARM). Singh stated that during a recent meeting with the ARM—attended by his associate Ajay Kumar—the official displayed a dismissive attitude and repeatedly rejected their concerns.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Singh remarked that the committee may now be compelled to launch a direct Agitation against the ARM before even approaching higher authorities such as the Railway Minister or the Railway Board. He asserted that the movement would not be easily suppressed, adding that the ongoing agitation was merely a ‘trailer,’ with a larger protest yet to unfold.
Several speakers echoed similar sentiments during the gathering. Aftab Ahmed Siddiqui described the agitation as a mass movement that would continue until all demands were fulfilled. Subodh Srivastava accused the Railways of neglecting passenger welfare, while Kanhaiya Singh criticized the prioritization of freight trains over passenger services. Ajay Kumar emphasized the need for officials to understand public hardships, and Manav Kedia stressed that commercial interests should not come at the cost of passenger amenities.
Other participants, including Kavita Parmar, Bhaskar Mukhi, Satish Singh and Usha Yadav, also voiced their concerns. The programme was anchored by Rajiv Kumar, and Prakash Koya delivered the vote of thanks.
Discrepancy in Rajdhani Express status sparks concern
Jamshedpur: MLA Saryu Roy has raised concerns over discrepancies in railway information systems after observing conflicting updates regarding the Rajdhani Express. He stated that while the train arrived at Chandil on time, it reached Tatanagar with a delay of 50 minutes.
However, while the train was still stationed at Adityapur, the official railway mobile application inaccurately displayed that it had already reached Tatanagar five minutes earlier. This mismatch between actual train movement and digital updates had raised questions about the reliability of railway tracking systems and caused confusion among passengers.
Signature campaign gains momentum
Jamshedpur: A large number of railway passengers actively participated in a signature campaign organized during the protest, expressing strong dissatisfaction with railway services. A dedicated desk with tables and chairs was set up beside the stage, where volunteers—primarily women—collected signatures from participants.
Two whiteboards placed near the stage were completely filled with signatures, reflecting widespread public support. Passengers not only signed the petition but also openly criticized railway authorities for persistent delays and mismanagement.
The campaign witnessed spontaneous participation, with many individuals taking photographs of the signed petitions and sharing them on social media platforms, further amplifying the protest’s reach and impact.
Scorching heat fails to deter protesters at signature campaign
Jamshedpur: Despite intense heat, participants remained steadfast during the ongoing signature campaign against railway issues. Similar to the earlier protest held on April 7, Sunday witnessed equally harsh weather conditions, with the sun beating down relentlessly.
Even as people were drenched in sweat, their determination did not waver, and not a single participant left the venue. To support the protesters, the organizing committee arranged ORS solutions and chilled drinking water.
Refreshing themselves periodically, participants continued to sit at the venue and actively contribute to the campaign, demonstrating strong resolve and unity in raising their concerns.
Hundreds join protest, prominent citizens extend support
Jamshedpur: The signature campaign witnessed the participation of hundreds of citizens, reflecting growing public support for the agitation against railway issues. Several prominent individuals from the region were present and extended their support to the cause.
Among those in attendance were Ashutosh Rai, Amrita Mishra, Amit Sharma, Neeraj Singh, Prakash Koya, Rajesh Prasad, Anjali Singh, Kaushal, Nirmal Singh, Ranjit Prasad, Durga Rao, Jitendra Singh, Vikas Sahni, Manoj Singh, Tarak Mukherjee, Sheshnath Pathak, Dinesh Singh, Vinod Singh, Chunnu Bhumij, Bablu Kumar, Praveen Singh, Arjun Yadav, Vijay Singh, Shankar Karmakar, Shamshad Khan, Sudhir Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Sonu Jha and Hari Dayal Rai.
Their presence added momentum to the campaign, underlining the widespread concern among citizens over railway-related issues.
