Jamshedpur: 81st annual conference of Jharkhand Bengali Samiti Focus on language and cultural preservation

Jamshedpur: The 81st annual conference of the Jamshedpur branch of the Jharkhand Bengali Samiti was held at Nirmal Bhawan in Uliyan, Kadma, bringing together prominent members of the Bengali community to discuss language, literature and cultural preservation.

The event was graced by chief guest Shekhar Dey, social worker and partner at Sreeleathers, while the session was presided by Central President Bidroho Mitra. Other key participants included Paresh Kumar Nandi (President, Netaji Subhash Manch), Nikhil Dutta (Convener), Jharna Kar (Policy Maker) and Tapan Sen Sharma (General Secretary). The programme was inaugurated with a welcome address by Swapan Dasgupta and anchored by Ashish Gupta, Nisar Amin and Purabi Chatterjee.

Shekhar Dey expressed pride in being a Bengali and appreciated those working for the promotion of Bengali language and literature. Bidroho Mitra emphasized the importance of youth participation in preserving linguistic heritage and announced efforts to revive Vidyasagar’s homeopathic clinic and library at Karmatar. The Samiti also demanded a train service from Karmatar to Kolkata named after Vidyasagar Mahashay.

The second session included a literary discussion marking 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’ by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Cultural performances were presented by Shamita Rakshit, Aditi Sengupta, Tapati Dutta, Devyani Dutta, Sharmishtha Dhar, Shampa Mukherjee, Deepa Banerjee, Suparna Sen Sharma and Bulbul Ghosh, with Dr. Partha Das on tabla.

A souvenir edited by Nisar Amin was released on the occasion. Poetry recitations by Purabi Ghosh, Sharmila Pal, Stota Dasgupta, Siddharth Sen, Bimal Chakraborty and Kaveri Sarkar added depth to the programme.
