Jamshedpur, April 18: The Railway Board has passed a directive that wearing masks or face shields was mandatory at stations and while on trains for safety of passengers against COVID infection threats. Persons found loitering inside stations or traveling in trains without masks would be penalized Rs 500 and action taken as per cleanliness law of 2020. The stricture has come into immediate effect especially in view of the rapidly growing infection rate in the wake of the second COVID wave.
Railway Board measures against COVID infection
The Railway Board has issued strictures vide which special drives have been launched in all major trains to ensure that all passengers wore masks, social distancing was maintained in all compartments, hands were washed with soap or sanitizers. Passengers over 45 years of age were to be urged to take vaccines against infection. Posters and banners were to be put up at stations and documentary films on COVID safety measures were to be shown at stations. Passengers were to arrive at the station well ahead of the arrival of their trains. Only passengers with confirmed reservations were to be allowed to board trains. RPF personnel were to be posted at stations to prevent stampedes of passengers on arrival of trains.
