Jamshedpur, Apr 18: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has undertaken a drive to encourage students in government school by deciding to felicitate those students who fetch more than 80 per cent marks in class 10 and class 11 exams.
The MLA as part of his effort to improve infrastructure and quality of education in the primary, middle and secondary school level has appointed retired Kolhan regional educational officer S. P Singh as MLA representative for education in his assembly constituency. The representative has been asked to visit the government schools and highlight the loopholes so that remedial measures can be taken to improve school standards in future.
As per district superintendent of education there are nearly 40 government schools in the Jamshedpur East constituency and so far the MLA has visited nearly 20 schools and during one such visit three months back had found attendance of girls very low in the Michael John Girls High School  and the district education officer has given permission for admission of girls in the school.
The state government had granted Rs 2 crore for physical infrastructure improvement of two schools in the constituency out of which Adivasi Plus Two school had a new building constructed at a cost of Rs 1.37 crore and the old building has been dismantled but new building is yet to be constructed and the grant amount was returned. Similarly, Rs 50 lakh was granted for construction of library at People’s Academy School but it was also returned due to non utilisation. Efforts would be made to seek the grant money and inquire into the reason for non-utilisation of the grant.
