Tatanagar: Passenger trains to run on time with construction of loop line

Jamshedpur: Passenger train services between Chandil and Tatanagar are set to improve significantly with the construction of two new loop lines near Manikui station. The initiative aims to facilitate the movement of goods trains from the main line to the yard, preventing line congestion and ensuring smoother operations for passenger trains.

The construction project, estimated at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, has been sanctioned by the railways. South Eastern Railway General Manager (GM) A.K. Mishra and Chakradharpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) have been actively inspecting the area to oversee the project’s progress. During a divisional-level meeting on Monday, the Railway GM personally inspected the tracks on foot, covering several kilometres between Manikui and Kunki.

“This loop line is crucial for streamlining operations. It will allow goods trains to move seamlessly into the yard, reducing bottlenecks on the main line,” stated a railway official. “Passenger trains, which often experience delays due to line jams near Kandra, will now be able to run on schedule.”

The loop line project is part of a larger plan to enhance railway infrastructure in the region. Future projects include constructing additional loop lines near major stations such as Tatanagar, Adityapur, Gamharia and Asanbani. These measures aim to improve overall efficiency, ensuring both goods and passenger trains operate without interruptions.

The Chakradharpur division has also proposed constructing loop lines at loading points and goods sheds, which would further ease congestion. “The addition of loop lines will facilitate better parking for goods trains and help maintain the speed and punctuality of passenger trains,” the GM added.

However, ongoing construction work will require temporary line blocks in Chandil, affecting the operation of several trains connecting Tatanagar to Bihar and Jharkhand. Similar line blocks in Chakradharpur, Ranchi and Adra divisions have already disrupted services, forcing the cancellation or rerouting of numerous trains.

Passengers have expressed frustration over the delays, with hundreds facing difficulties daily. “While the construction work is necessary, timely completion is critical to minimize the inconvenience caused to travellers,” said a commuter waiting at Tatanagar station.

With an investment exceeding Rs 2.5 crore, the railways are committed to completing the loop line project and improving the reliability of train services. As operations normalize, passengers can expect smoother journeys and fewer delays in the near future.
