Tatanagar: Goods train derails in Salgajhari, rail services affected

Jamshedpur, Feb 18: A goods train got derailed between Tatanagar and Salgajhari railway stations on Saturday. Railway traffic on Tatanagar to Kharagpur down line route was affected since 7 am. Sources said two goods trains had departed on the down line. One of the trains went through second line while the other went through third line. The second line train reportedly crossed a red signal. On realizing his fault, the driver applied emergency brake which led to the derailment. Consequently, traffic on the Tata-Kharagpur down line and third line was affected. The rail traffic was restored in two and a half hours. Movement of passenger trains was affected for around 20 minutes. Several trains were stopped at Tatanagar after the incident. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Chakradharpur reached Tatanagar at 9.30 am today and left for the derailment site by road. The DRM visited Salgajhari Railway Halt around 10 am. A helpdesk was set up at Platform No. 1 for helping passengers.
