Jamshedpur, Jan 10: As Tata Steel’s authorized Tata Workers Union gears up for elections, the anticipation is palpable with the announcement of candidates for key positions. President Sanjeev Chaudhary Tunnu appears to be heading for a clean sweep, having garnered support from both old and new members due to his commendable track record and amiable demeanor.
However, the real battleground lies in the contests for General Secretary and Deputy President. Treasurer Harishankar Singh’s decision to contest independently has intensified the race, with Harishankar challenging Satish Singh for the post of General Secretary, and Arvind Pandey set to face Deputy President Shailesh Singh.
Arvind Pandey, a former contender for the President’s post in the previous elections, has strategically shifted focus to the Deputy President position this time. Despite his defeat in the past, Pandey remains a formidable candidate for the Deputy President role.
The current scenario leaves President Sanjeev Chaudhary Tunnu as the sole candidate for the presidential position, enjoying a seemingly unchallenged position. While there is speculation about potential last-minute contenders, the overall atmosphere remains peaceful, with no signs of disruption.
The post of Treasurer, vacated by Harishankar Singh, has only one contender, Ajay Chaudhary, making it a relatively uncontested race for this crucial position.
The elections will feature four single posts—President, General Secretary, Deputy President, and Treasurer—alongside four Vice President positions and three Assistant Secretary roles. Committee members will be elected first, followed by the selection of office bearers by the committee members. The election dynamics are expected to unfold as candidates vie for support from the maximum number of committee members to secure victory.
