Jamshedpur, May 18: As part of pre-monsoon preparedness efforts, Tata Steel UISL has taken up initiatives for comprehensive cleaning of drains (Nalas). The city’s drainage network is undergoing a cleaning process to ensure smooth and efficient water flow during the upcoming rainy season. There are some constructions very close to or on the path of the Nalas, which may lead to rainwater logging in view of the obstruction that has been created. Hence it is important to clean the Nalas so that the rainwater can flow freely into the river, the desilting and cleaning of various Nalas across the city began in early March this year and significant progress has been made. Till date Nalas at several locations have been cleared of silt and debris, with the ongoing work expected to be completed before the arrival of the monsoon. While substantial work progress has been achieved, the efforts continue to face challenges at several places by encroachments on the adjoining Nalas. These obstructions not only impede the flow of water but also pose safety risk and hindrance while cleaning and maintenance activities.
To address this issue, the company has urged all citizens to co-operate in maintaining the cleanliness of the Nalas by adhering to the following guidelines: Refrain from dumping garbage into Nalas and drains, Participate in community clean-up drives and awareness programs being organized.
