Tata Steel Tinplate signs 7-year grade revision pact, 860 employees to benefit

New wage settlement offers Rs 19,155 CTC benefit for Old Series, Rs 18,182 for NS Series 

Jamshedpur, June 12: In a major development for employees of Tata Steel Limited’s Tinplate Division, the management and the recognized Tata Tinplate Workers’ Union have concluded a long-pending grade revision agreement. The settlement, covering salary revisions, allowances and employee benefits, is expected to benefit 860 employees and strengthen industrial relations within the company.

The agreement was finalized after extensive discussions between the management and union representatives. For employees under the Old Series category, the revised terms will be effective from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2031. For employees under the NS Series category, the agreement will remain valid from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2032.

The Dearness Allowance (DA) point rate has been retained at ₹2.50 per point, with no changes made to the existing structure.

As part of the settlement, several components of the salary structure have been revised. A new Education Assistance Allowance of ₹1,200 has been introduced, providing additional support to employees. Existing benefits such as promotion-related advantages, leave encashment, Leave Travel Assistance (LTA), night shift allowance and other welfare provisions have been retained.

Under the revised structure, employees in the Old Series category will receive a total Cost to Company (CTC) benefit of ₹19,155.50, while employees in the NS Series category will receive a CTC benefit of ₹18,182.50. The settlement covers 457 employees in the Old Series category and 403 employees in the NS Series category.

Both the management and union leadership described the agreement as a significant achievement that reflects mutual trust and cooperation. They expressed confidence that the settlement would enhance employee morale, improve productivity and further strengthen industrial harmony at the Tinplate Division.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Deputy Labour Commissioner Arvind Kumar on behalf of the Government of Jharkhand. Representing the management were Atrayee Sanyal, Chief People Officer at Tata Steel; Ujjal Chakraborti, Vice President (Operations-Downstream); Zubin Palia, CHRO, India Manufacturing;  Dr. Sourajyoti Dey (Chief Tinplate) ; Sonam Ranjan, Chief HRBP; Deepak Varghese, Head HRBP; and Gurpreet Singh, Senior Area Manager, Employee Relations.

The union side was represented by President Rakeshwar Pandey, Deputy President Parvinder Singh Sohal, General Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, Senior Vice President Sai Babu Raju, Vice President Jagjit Singh and other office-bearers.
