Jamshedpur, March 17: The 35th National Road Safety Month 2024, which took place in a hybrid format from January 18 to February 17, concluded on March 14.
The National Road Safety Month (NRSM) is an annual observance guided by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India. The National Safety Council complements the government’s efforts by promoting Road Safety Campaigns nationwide.
Throughout the month-long celebrations, various activities were conducted to raise awareness among the workforce about critical Road Safety issues and to reinforce safe practices to reduce road-related incidents and injuries. This year’s campaign witnessed active involvement from stakeholders at different locations. Outstanding safety performances by departments and vendor partners, as well as their employees, were acknowledged and awarded.

Number of safety related activities were carried out during the month to create awareness among employees and vendor partners at Tata Steel locations. There were also initiatives undertaken beyond Tata Steel premises to enhance road safety awareness in communities.
The concluding event was graced by Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, Peeyush Gupta, Vice President of TQM (Total Quality Management), GSP (Group Strategic Procurement) & Supply Chain, Tata Steel and Chairman of the Apex Road and Rail Safety Sub-committee at Tata Steel, and Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, President of Tata Workers’ Union (TWU). Senior management officials, employees, vendor partners from Tata Steel Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Tata Steel Meramandali, Raw Materials Division, Tata Steel Gamharia, NINL (Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited), HMC (Haldia Met Coke), Union Committee Members, TWU Office bearers, among others.
As part of the concluding event, a street play (Nukkad Natak) was performed addressing common behavioural issues related to road safety. The concluding event recognized notable safety performances by employees, vendor partners, and departments from Tata Steel’s operational units. Competitions were held for poster making, short video creation, Role Model Heavy Vehicle Drivers, Good Samaritans on the road, Online Intranet Quiz, significant contributions to Road Infrastructural Improvements, Best Transporters, Best Departments in Road Safety Initiatives, among others.
The hybrid event saw enthusiastic participation from all Tata Steel locations. Over 500 employees and vendor partners physically attended the function at Steelennium Hall inside Jamshedpur Works.

Traffic signal control system is a network of electrically or mechanically control electronic traffic lights that regulate the flow of vehicles and pedestrians at an intersection.
Unfortunately in Jamshedpur there is no such system established at all major/minor road crossings like Sakchi Bus stand before abd after of Manga bridge, DC office, Jubliee park, Parsee fire temple, Sakchi eye hospital, TMH hospital, Jusco main office, Sakchi Govt Hospital.
Automobile industries pumped production of two/ three/ four wheel passenger/ commercial vehicles terribly on road specially Steel industrial town like Jamshedpur. SONARI Tata Steel Airport Jn. etc more than 70 such places needs implementation on public safety point of view. Infrastructure development like roads, flyover briges, under ground tracks for pedestrian, areawise parking, toilets, designed shoping complex, demarcated public service roads, commuters shelter stands is zero City like Jamshedpur steel plant, 20mtpa capacity.
Senior citizens priority at public service counters like banks/LIC post offices, public transport is yet to be promoted. No check on open food stalls spread like mushroom close to DC office Sakchi and Bistupur Thana.
