Tata Steel Reconstitutes Citizens’ Advisory Council with 35-Member Elite Panel

Two-year committee to provide strategic roadmap for Jamshedpur’s urban development

Jamshedpur: In a significant move to enhance community engagement and urban governance, Tata Steel CEO & Managing Director T.V. Narendran has officially reconstituted the Citizens’ Advisory Council (CAC). The newly formed 35-member committee, comprising current and former Tata Steel executives alongside eminent citizens of Jamshedpur, is tasked with advising the steel major on improving city infrastructure and quality of life.

Strategic Leadership and Tenure

The council will operate for a two-year term, with mandatory review meetings scheduled every three months to discuss and implement development projects.

D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, has been appointed as the Chairperson. Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President of Jamshedpur Operations, will serve as the Alternate Chairperson. The administrative wing will be led by Rajesh Rajan, Head of Communications (Jharkhand & Raw Materials), as Convener, assisted by Rupesh Kumar Srivastava as Co-Convener.

A Diverse Panel of Stakeholders

The council features a broad spectrum of leaders from academia, industry, social sectors, and religion to ensure inclusive growth. Key members include:

  • Industry & Trade: Manav Kedia (President, Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce), Inder Agarwal (President, ASIA), and Sunil Kumar Tiwari (Plant Head, Tata Motors).

  • Education: Fr. Donald D’Silva (Dean, XLRI), Dr. Anjali Gupta (VC, Jamshedpur Women’s University), Gautam Sutradhar (Director, NIT), and several prominent school principals.

  • Social & Community: Bhagwan Singh (President, CGPC), Mansoor Ali (Social Worker), and representatives from the Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

  • Special Invites: The panel also includes permanent invitees such as Atul Bhatnagar (MD, Tata Steel UISL) and Sourav Roy (CEO, Tata Steel Foundation) to ensure seamless execution of CSR and utility services.

Strengthening the Company-City Bond

While the council has existed for years, this reconstitution marks a fresh approach by inducting several new faces. The committee acts as a bridge between Tata Steel’s management and the residents of Jamshedpur, ensuring that the city’s evolution aligns with the needs of its diverse population.
