Jamshedpur Feb. 22,: A Workshop on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was inaugurated today by Anand Sen, President (TQM and Steel Business) .
Other senior leaders present during the inauguration included Dr. Sanjay Chandra (Chief R&D and Scientific Services). Madhulika Sharma (Chief Corporate Sustainability), N Rajesh (Chief of Manufacturing � Flat Products) and Anup Sahay (Chief Corporate Strategy & Planning).
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a relatively new concept in India and is one of the emerging tools used for assessing the environmental impacts of a product, process or activity throughout its life cycle; from the extraction of raw materials to processing, transport, use and disposal. Tata Steel had recognized the importance of this tool and has invested by creating a vertical in its R&D Dept dedicated to LCA. The goal of this vertical is to strengthen management decision making based on Environmental parameters.
To create greater awareness on this emerging subject and to mainstream LCA in the organization a one and a half day workshop has been organized by Tata Steel R&D and Corporate Sustainability at Jamshedpur on 22nd and 23rd February 2017.
The workshop is unique and one of its kind where practitioners, expert groups, customers and policy advocates are participating as speakers. Dr. Peter Hodgson (Head LCA Expert Group � World Steel Association) and Iain Millar from Tata Steel Europe (TSE) will be speaking during the workshop. Abhay Pathak (Sustainability Lead – Tata Motors) will be sharing the experience of using LCA in automotive sector.
S Karthikeyan (Senior Counsellor, CII-GBC) will be giving CII�s perspective of why industries need to embrace LCA for green product certification and Rajesh Kumar Singh (Managing Director �Thinkstep India, a world leader in providing LCA tool for organisations globally) will be sharing a pan India perspective on the subject. The audience will comprise of internal participants as well as customers along with representation from Tata Sustainability Group (TSG).
