R K Sinha, Head Work Place Safety, Tata Steel gave the welcome address and spoke about the benefits of the forum of Sumilan. We have to go a long way to achieve the target of zero fatality. I appreciate this forum as it helped to implement the new safety timings for the movement of cycles and heavy vehicles. The movement of cycles is still a major challenge before us.
J P Singh, the chief guest of the occasion said that Safety should be imbibed in our culture because it cant be achieved by mere policing or penal action. Safety should be followed as a disciplinary way of life. He also urged the vendors that the target should be injury free Works rather than Zero fatality.
Vilas N Gaikwad, highlighted fatalities of cyclists and pedestrians. Hence we need to reduce the movement of cycles at the same time when there is movement of heavy vehicles inside Works by July. Its a corporate concern and with the help of forums such as Sumilan we will try to achieve the target. During the programme he also announced about the new safety campaign to be launched for pedestrians in the month of August.
In between the session, some good practices were shared by the vendor partners in the area of safety, followed by an interactive session in which many questions were posed and suggestions too poured in.
