Tata Steel organises Green-a-thon to raise awareness on nature preservation and healthy living

 

Jamshedpur, June 1: In its continued efforts to promote environmental conservation through public engagement, Tata Steel organised Green-a-thon 2024 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

The Green-a-thon, in the form of a walkathon, was flagged off by Rajiv Mangal, along with Ram Pravesh, Regional Officer, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, Dr. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Chief (Environment Management), Tata Steel, and Shailesh Kumar, Deputy President, Tata Workers’ Union.

Events such as the Green-a-thon, drawing competition and elocution contest are being organised as a build-up to World Environment Day 2024. This year’s theme is ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’. More than 1000 individuals participated in the walkathon, traversing through the clean and green areas of Jamshedpur. Around 1,117 individuals had registered for the Green-a-thon 2024.

The event commenced with an awareness session on nature conservation and healthy living, followed by light exercises and a Zumba session for the participants. A special cool-off session was also organised for the finishers. The event was jointly organised by the Environment Department and the Sports Department.

Concurrent with the Green-a-thon, the Environment Department is also hosting drawing and elocution competitions centered around this year’s theme. So far, more than 500 children have participated in the drawing competition, and 50 children have taken part in the elocution contest.
