Jamshedpur, Jan 3: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy expressed strong concerns over the ongoing garbage disposal issues in the Mango Municipal Corporation area during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum. The MLA bluntly stated that the people of Mango are losing patience over the poor waste management situation, warning that if the issue is not resolved within two days, the public may take matters into their own hands.
“The patience of the people of Mango has worn thin,” Saryu Roy said during the meeting. “If the garbage disposal problem is not fixed in two days, residents will have no choice but to take direct action.” He emphasized that despite efforts from the Mango Municipal Corporation, the daily accumulation of garbage is not being properly managed, leading to heaps of waste piling up in various parts of the area.
Roy urged the DC to act swiftly and requested that the garbage generated in Mango be disposed of in Tata Steel’s Bara Complex, just as the waste from Jamshedpur’s notified area is handled. “The garbage of Jamshedpur is being dumped at Tata Steel’s Bara Complex, and the same should be done for Mango’s waste,” Roy explained. “In 2010-11, both JNAC and Mango’s garbage was disposed of at Bara. Later, it was shifted to Tata’s leased land along Marine Drive with their consent, but the site is in the middle of a residential area, causing frequent fires. The NGT intervened in April 2023, and since then, JNAC’s garbage has returned to Bara while Mango’s problem remains unresolved.”
He further added, “It is now the responsibility of the DC to engage with Tata Steel and ensure that Mango’s garbage is also managed at the same site where JNAC’s waste is disposed.”
Roy stressed that Tata Steel cannot neglect its duty towards the Mango region, as the company shares a deep-rooted connection with the area. “Tata Steel and Mango have an unbreakable bond,” he stated. “This relationship should not be undermined. Mango Municipal Corporation, formed from wards 7, 8, and 9 of JNAC, is connected to various vital Tata Steel assets, such as Dimna Road, Mango Square, MGM College and even the residences of over a thousand Tata Steel employees.”
Concluding his remarks, Roy urged the Deputy Commissioner to secure a place in Tata Steel’s Bara Complex for the proper disposal of garbage from Mango. He emphasized that both JNAC and Mango Municipal Corporation have equal rights to public facilities and services provided by Tata Steel.
Delegation from Mango area meets DC over garbage disposal issues
Residents demand immediate action to prevent health crisis
Jamshedpur, Jan 3: A delegation from the Mango area met with the DC on Friday to discuss the escalating garbage disposal issues in the region. The delegation submitted a memorandum outlining the severe condition of waste management in Mango, which has led to the area being dubbed a “dirty city” instead of the clean and green city it was once envisioned to be.

In the memorandum, the delegation highlighted the deteriorating situation in Mango, stating that garbage is being collected from all over the area but has not been disposed of for several weeks. The Mango Notified Area Committee, responsible for waste management, has not addressed the issue effectively. “The population of about four lakh people in Mango is suffering due to the foul smell emanating from the accumulated garbage,” the memorandum read. “The stench is so unbearable that it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to live here, and there are growing concerns of an epidemic.”
The delegation emphasized that both the Mango Notified Area Committee and the district administration have failed to resolve the garbage disposal crisis. They referred to a meeting held in November last year, in which the district administration called for a public movement to tackle garbage as part of the Swachh Survey 2024. However, the delegation pointed out the lack of action since then, describing the administration’s attitude as lax and insensitive.
The delegation made a firm demand for the disposal of Mango’s garbage in the Bara Complex dumping yard, which is currently used for JNAC’s waste disposal. “We request that the garbage from Mango Municipal Corporation be disposed of in the same manner, at the Bara Complex premises run by Tata Steel,” the memorandum stated. The delegation warned that if the situation does not improve soon, it would be forced to organize a massive public movement to demand action.
