Jamshedpur: Tata Steel’s Managing Director, TV Narendran, highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing safety and quality during a media interaction at an event on Saturday. Narendran emphasized that, much like the initial concerns surrounding computers, AI’s integration into various sectors holds the promise of generating extensive employment opportunities rather than diminishing them.
AI’s application at Tata Steel is expected to drive substantial improvements not only in safety and quality but also in various other facets of the business. Responding to inquiries, Narendran acknowledged the potential introduction of an electric furnace at the Jamshedpur plant but refrained from making immediate statements on the matter, noting that further assessments and decisions are required.
The global landscape sees ongoing efforts towards the implementation of electric furnaces, primarily aimed at reducing carbon emissions by minimizing coal consumption. Tata Steel is steadfast in its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and has initiated efforts on multiple fronts.
Addressing questions regarding the fluctuation in steel prices in India, Narendran pointed out that these price dynamics are influenced by the interplay of demand, supply, and the costs of raw materials. He also touched upon the slight variance in profit during the second quarter, attributing it to the substantial steel exports from China.
Tata Steel remains dedicated to conducting continuous training programs, cultivating a pool of skilled and qualified personnel to uphold and further bolster quality standards within the company.
