Noamundi, July 18: Tata Steel in providing an inclusive environment to people with disabilities conducted a special tracking drive in Deojhar Gram Panchayat Office, Katamati, Odisha and in Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) Office, Noamundi, on July 17 and 18.
This is the first time that people with disabilities in these regions have been tracked and identified by TSRDS. The two day Disability Awareness and Sensitization Programme will not only aid the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment wing of government in developing a data base for future usage but will also help Tata Steel in identifying such cases and plan for future developmental aids.
TSRDS along with the community-level health workers under their Maternal and New Born Survival Initiative (MANSI) project mobilised the entire drive. A total of 84 persons with disabilities were tracked and registered under the Unique Disability Identity (UDID) for the first time. The registration into UDID will help persons with disabilities to avail benefits under various government schemes.
Among those present on the occasion included Amren Dang, Block Development Officer, Noamundi, Anjana Kumari, Child Development Programm Officer, Noamundi and Allen Joseph, Unit Head, TSRDS, Noamundi.
