Tata Steel Jamshedpur organises Senior Citizen Fun & Fitness League 2023

Asha, Mukesh win Senior Citizen Badminton Championship

Jamshedpur, October 8: Tata Steel’s Sports Department organised a Badminton Championship under the Senior Citizen Fun & Fitness League banner.

The event witnessed grand participation from the senior citizen community in Jamshedpur. This is the first time such an initiative has been taken to promote sports through the senior citizen community. Sudhansu Pathak, Former Vice President Steel Manufacturing, Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centre, Tata Steel.

A total of 34 participants took part in the Badminton Championship, with 32 entries in the men’s singles category and 2 entries in the women’s singles category. Asha Hariharan (62) from Sakchi won in the Women’s Singles Category while Bitihika Das (62) from Dimna Road bagged the runners up position. Mukesh Vishwakarma (63) from Sonari won in the Men’s Singles Category while Tinu Dubey (61) from Sonari and Amar Kumar (59) from Baridih were the runners-up in the men’s singles category.

Winners were awarded by Hemant Gupta, Head Adventure Programmes & Sports, Tata Steel.

Senior Citizen Fun & Fitness League 2023 is aimed at recognising the pivotal role senior citizens play in our society, and their influence on the younger generation is profound. Guided by valuable input from this demographic, the Senior Citizens Fun & Fitness League aims to provide a platform for them to showcase their skills and promote physical activity. Active aging through sports is an excellent way for seniors to maintain physical fitness, mental health, and social connections.
